This historic drawing of the legendary Oakmont Country Club, site of several U.S. Open Championships, is believed to be the oldest surviving plan of Oakmont.
The map was discovered in 2006 when old plans of Arthur Jack Snyder were being archived. Snyder attended Penn State from 1936 through 1939, teaching a class in golf architecture during his senior year. The origin of the drawing is believed to be Snyders senior class assignment in 1939. The Snyders had a long history with Oakmont beginning in 1907 when Snyders father caddied for W. C. Fownes, son of Oakmont founder H. C. Fownes.
Arthur Jack Snyder was greenkeeper at Oakmont in the early 1950s before beginning his career as a golf architect. The original plan by measures 29 x 25 in. and was restored for these editio
